&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;New page&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;DMC is a cold-neutron powder diffractometer situated at PSI. This instrument is optimized for high intensity, it has a medium \(q\)-resolution and a small-to-medium \(q\)-range. This makes DMC well suited for the study of magnetic structures. Here, we will, however, discuss only nuclear structures.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This assignment takes you through the construction of a full DMC simulation. Then, you will perform a virtual powder diffraction experiment. At last, you will use the state-of-the-art analysis package FULLPROF to analyze the data and determine the crystal structure of an unknown substance.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If time allows, you are encouraged to suggest and investigate improvements to the spectrometer.&lt;br /&gt;
